This should be fun
I’m finally at work on a new wallpaper. This wallpaper has been concepted for months, but I just never had the time to do it. What I’ve decided to do with this one is log every day of this project. So at the end of everyday I work on this wallpaper, I am going to post a picture of the status of the wallpaper. I am also screencasting the whole thing (not a tutorial). So when it’s all said and done, I hope to be able to speed up the video and show a start to finish wallpaper video… fun fun happy times!
Day 1- 1 Hour of work.

my tip….
Never start designing for anyone (company, organization, person, friend, monster) without knowing how their stuff has been designed in the past. Study their old stuff. See what’s good, see where improvements could be made… Then figure out how to bring in new life. Freshness is what you’re bringing to the table, just remember that they always have a history. If you disregard their history, you are disregarding them. I know it may sound cliché, but embrace their history.
In the last few months…
In the last few months I have realized how stupid selfishness is, and how great it is to give.
People say that the more you give, the more you get. But the trick is being happy without getting. That’s my favorite part.

I’m the guy….
Robert Roberts… I don’t talk about him much, do I?
Robert Roberts is an extension of me. He is the uber-annoying, sarcastic, dysfunctional side of me. It’s weird though, when I am puppeteering Robert, I become Robert. I am not in my own mind-set, I’m in his. I know you’re thinking “Whatever”. But I have literally been on Robert’s Facebook, writing as him, and I didn’t laugh until after I had read it as Jon. Robert wrote it. It’s kinda freaky. I talk about him in third person, and I often forget that I am Robert. Robert is not a person… But I sure do treat him like he’s real. I remember, one day after puppets was over, I went up to Star and said, “Man, Robert was funny today.” It’s kinda stupid I know, but I find it odd. I don’t even know Robert that well until I get into character. For example, the other day Alex Low asked me if Robert liked the Movie “Wall•E”? And of course I answered “Yes”, cause I liked that movie. But then I stopped, switched into Robert voice and said “No way, The robots don’t even talk! Who are they trying to fool?”
Anyways, Here’s a picture of Robert dressed up as Wall•E for the Gummy Awards.
And of course, I forgot to mention. Robert has a twin sister. Ruby Roberts is basically Roberts same personality but nicer and more caring. I really hope her character grows this year to reflect the puppeteer (which is not me). I have an odd little story about how Ruby came to be but now is not the time to talk about it seeing as I haven’t even told the puppeteer. Let’s just say, there’s a reason why Ruby hasn’t been seen in four months, and why I have been too afraid to write for her.
and it starts…
I found that if you bug people enough, they let you make them stuff…. for free, of course, being the clever businessman that I am. I am so happy to do it, though! I dunno why, but I just love this organization. I love doing work for such a great group of people. I always said that I have a hard time saying no to people, but that isn’t always true. If I’m swamped with other projects I have an easier time saying no. There are only two people in the world that I will never say no to (no matter what my workload looks like), and that is Colin Black and Fredia “Awempson” Thompson (Area Director for CYT Vancouver East- I think that’s her title).
Here’s the Anne of Green Gables poster I was able to piece together in a 6-8 hour turn-around. I’m uber-critical of my stuff so I know that this is definitely not my best work but I do know that it was the best that I could do in such a tight time-frame and the fact that I know so little about the subject. Scrooge on the other hand, I know forwards and backwards.
Made another interim website at www.improvathon2009.com. Fun, epic little design for a splash page. Unfortunately, this is not the art direction that I would like to take the event. I do think it would make for some snazzy flair on facebook….
